Hopeful Spaces
Our vision is for a world where everyone can access the therapy that they need to navigate life’s challenges.
To create community based therapeutic spaces that are welcoming to people of all identities – especially those that are and have been socially and economically marginalised.
Our Mission
To improve mental health outcomes in marginalised communities. We achieve that by delivering free talking therapy to people in partnership with community organisations, establishing warm and friendly therapy rooms in local spaces.
To nurture a more socially conscious counselling profession. We achieve that by providing development opportunities for trainee therapists, hosting supervised and supportive volunteer placements that respect the hundreds of hours they put in to mental health services.
Strategic Priorities
Our Founding
Hopeful Spaces CIC was set up in 2023 by Jamie Kinlochan. Jamie is a graduate of the University of Strathclyde’s Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Jamie has delivered over 1,000 counselling hours, across services that support people experiencing a variety of difficult experiences.
Hopeful Spaces was inspired by two research trips that Jamie took to the United States, where he spent time visiting community justice organisations and unique therapy services like Prairie Sky Counselling Centre and Synergy House. After establishing a discrete service within the Tannahill Centre in Paisley’s Ferguslie Park, and seeing the impact it had, Jamie set up Hopeful Spaces so that more communities could benefit from this approach.
Jamie was awarded a BEM in the New Year’s Honours list for his work during the COVID-19 pandemic, which included managing a counselling service.
