Traineeships
Across Scotland every year, trainee therapists deliver thousands of hours of mental health support for free - sometimes even at cost to themselves.
As well as delivering voluntary counselling hours, trainees have essays to write, caring commitments, jobs and the non-stop work of personal reflection. We respect the effort and hard work that goes into training to be a counsellor, and want to provide trainee therapists with the best conditions possible for their practice to thrive.
That’s why when someone delivers their trainee hours with us we will:
Pay for external supervision
Pay travel costs
Give a £500 professional development stipend when upon completion of 100 hours with us
Provide ongoing one to one support during your traineeship

Statement on Volunteering
Volunteering is a really great way for someone to offer up skills and time to benefit the wider community. Although volunteering seems neutral and inherently positive, volunteering is easier to access for people without caring responsibilities and easier for people who can afford to not work.
In time, we want our services to be delivered by qualified therapists who are respected for what they do, and offered working conditions that provide security and dignity. We don’t want to collude with the current system while we get there.
At a minimum, we think that volunteers should have out of pocket expenses and professional costs, like supervision and insurance, covered. And we think that volunteering should be offered in the most accessible and fair way. Our finances don’t permit us to do that right now, so we are not looking for volunteers at this time.
